Perfect on Sundays and Perfect on the Blog

I love posting and telling everyone the fun things that we do as a family, and the cute things that my children say, but rarely, do I tell about those really hard moments: the temper tantrums, fights, and messy house. Because just like everyone else, I am perfect on Sunday, and perfect on the Blog. Cheryl Lant, General Primary President, shared this story at a Primary open house. I actually heard it in person (see perfect on Sunday and on the Blog!) She tells of one night when her husband was gone and she was putting her children to bed, and she would get one down, and then another would get up. So she got out her wooden spoon, and started screeming at the top of her lungs. The kids were just laughing at her. Then all of the sudden the door bell rang..... she went and there was her neighbor with a huge grin on her face, "I heard the whole thing! You made my day!" This neighbor realized that the near perfect, calm, and very spiritual woman and her natural man moments just like the rest of us. If you want to read more of the round table discussion with Sister Lant, Sister Parkin, and Sister Tanner, go here ! I don't think I'm ready to share with the world out there, those hard moments, but I wanted to let you know that I have them!

Sightseeing---Locally!

We had a great week seeing the local sights. On Wenesday, free day at the dinosaur museum, Joshua, Emily and I went to see Jane! Harrison and Joshua worked out this deal--as Harrison put it--"I don't like Jane, so Joshua and I made this deal! He can go see Jane while I am at school!" I agreed with this plan, and we had a great day. Thursday, we had a play date at the children's museum. Harrison had a great time with his friends! A little tentative at first, but then he jumped right into playing with the others. Saturday we went a saw a free concert with Susan Salidor, and enjoyed the beautiful weather along the river. The boys loved the sculptures! My favorite quote was from Joshua, "Mommy, it isn't snowing or raining." "Then what is it doing?" "It is shining!" Yes, even my three year old recognized what a terrible wet winter we have had. He even told me that he doesn't like snow mountains. I am sure that his opinion will change by next winter, he just wants it to be warm and sunny!

They grow way too fast!

She can crawl
Eat pancakes
And warm everyones heart!

But Emily came to us as a very old spirit and an extrodinary one! She has so much light in her; I hope that I can have that light as well!

Going Downtown!

Mike came home for only 30 hours and what do I do, escape. After six bedtimes, I needed a night off! My friend from highschool Amy Lilly, was in town, so she treated me to a night Downtown. A little hipper and brighter than downtown Oneonta. We had a great time. I'd go for another one!

April Fools!

Harrison really got into April Fools. He kept telling the same joke over and over again. "Mommy my fingers are invisable, April Fools!" I think he wanted it to keep on going because he asked, "Why is April Fools only one day?" We have been reading this book called No Talking, It is about a contest that 5th graders have at school where no one talks unless a teacher asks you a question, and then they can only answer in three words. So Harrison said he was going to try the contest at school. From my understanding that is what he does at school at this point, so I am not sure the teachers will notice a difference. Maybe he is trying to make April Fools go one more day.

I Don't Want to Eat my Holy Ghost

Our family scripture study consists of taking one scripture mastery a week and reading it and talking about it and also talking about other scriptures that relate to it. (We were doing one a day, but I felt as if we weren't getting anything out of it, so we went to one a week.) This week it is Alma 32:21, so we talked about the rest of Alma's sermon. First, Harrison thought it was pretty funny if we planted a seed in our heart to have a tree growing out of our bodies. Then tonight we talked about how it wasn't a seed, but the word of God and the Gospel. We all decided that those would always be good seed, so it was just a matter of nourishing it, with the Holy Ghost, following what the word said, then we would be able to eat all that was sweet above that was sweet. Joshua then proceeds to tell us that he doesn't want to eat his Holy Ghost. Joshua can feel the Holy Ghost in his heart, and if there is fruit also in his heart it must be the Holy Ghost. So I hope that maybe someday that Joshua and Harrison will be able to understand that scripture, and maybe I will too!

Peace, Be Still Continues

As many of you faithful blog readers know, Joshua loves the story when Jesus calms the see. At night now when we say good night, we say Peace, be still. It's our little Goodnight John Boy ritual. (Wish they had shows like the Waltons on TV now!) Here is a movie where the boys acted out the story. Joshua loves to be Jesus, and I could think that this might be prophetic of the person he will become, but he also makes a very good Darth Vader. We couldn't do this in Primary because children are not supposed to be Christ, but I think it is great that they know the scriptures so well that they can act it out at home. You may ask what was a tent doing in our living room and how did it become a ship on the see. To answer your first question, we had Sarah over for a sleepover, and we always put the tent up! If you know my children, you know that anything can turn into a ship. Hope that you enjoy, and Peace, be still!
