Balloons!

We chased the balloon, and saw it land!
The boys covering their ears because of the noise.
Timber!
Strongman loved seeing the balloon up close!
We saw the balloons as we were driving home from Jennie's (my parents were in town for their cousin's baptism). We became balloon chasers, and it was magical!

Mud Cake!

The boys made mud cake as a craft. It is pretty fun, and very yummy. So in a cake pan you mix flour, baking soda, sugar, and cocoa. Then you make three holes in the flour. A hole for vinegar, a hole for oil, and a hole for vanilla. Then you put water over the entire mixture, mix it up (it looks like mud thus the name) and cook it--yum yum and lots of fun!

School!

Getting on the bus!
Getting off the bus!
We are ready to go!
Don't take a picture of me!

There are no pictures of me on my first day of school, but maybe when I start teaching on the Elementary Level instead of the Collegiate Level. The boys started school over a week ago, and I started on the same day. It works out well because I can get them off and on the bus while I am at work. Then on Tuesdays and Thursday, I have the house to just me. Well Gypsy Girl is home, but so far she has been napping while the boys are at school. We are in heaven. The boys love riding the bus and making friends. I am teaching two classes as taking one--so one step closer to getting my Masters! Mike is now flying out of New York City--so far he has had 1st Class to New York and back--we hope that keeps up. Gypsy Gril misses her brothers when they are gone, and loves being able to run around with them.

Our Computer is Broken!

I have tons of things to say, and tons of pictures to post, but we don't have a computer. We have all started school: Strongman is in preschool, Goalieboy is in Kindergarten, and I am teaching two classes and taking one class towards my graduate degree. Hopefully, we will have a computer by the end of the week. We are trying to fix our current computer, and hopefully save for a new one.

What I've learned as a mom!

Yesterday, I spent my "free time" during Emily's nap putting together a Star Wars Lego Spaceship, and I started to think about the things that I have learned as a mother, that I would never learn in any other circumstances, nor did I think I would actually learn them as a mother!

  1. Shifting with the left hand. My oldest son was a binky baby, and we would always loose the binky on car rides. What did I do--I let him suck on my finger. This worked great when we were on the highway--no shifting involved, but when we were driving around town I would reach over and shift with my left hand. When I told my husband, he about freaked. Why would I drive a car with only one hand on the steering wheel, let alone no hands--but I think it was quite impressive!
  2. Holding down kids for shots. I was always (as long as I remember) very stoic about pain, but not two of my kids. Harrison is now on a mission to never have shots again!! Infact he is trying to eat healthy, so he won't get sick again. This last visit, both Harrison and Emily got shots. Emily gave one of the quiet eery screams, and Harrison kept saying there are no such things as shots. We had to have a nurse come in to hold Emily, so I could hold Harrison down--needless to say I don't think I will make Harrison get a flu shot this year.
  3. Building spaceships out of legos. I can't believe that I can actually build spaceships--even without directions. My childhood experience of playing with legos consisted of building houses because I was always playing with my brother Joseph the architect. (He really is an architect--and he was always designing houses out of blocks legos ectera.) But my boys are children of a pilot, so I needed to learn how to build ships.
  4. Lifting, carrying and pushing large objects (meaning my kids!). I've carried all three of my kids: Emily was in a carrier, Harrison on my back, and Joshua was on my other arm. They also like to all ride in the stroller--and yell full speed ahead. I then run pushing at least 100 lbs--I credit this strength to my mormon pioneer heritage!
  5. Doing everything while carrying a baby in a Bjorn! I've taught primary, made dinner, mowed the lawn, played with my other kids all while one child was in the Bjorn. I've loved it! It was well worth buying (of course I bought it used!)
  6. Showering in less than two minutes! I grew up in a family of seven children, so you might think that I would have learned as a child, but I didn't. I actually took such long showers that I used up all the hot water. I guess my mom didn't realize this because she always had me shower first on Sunday morning.
  7. Traveling Light: I actually have traveled just using carry-on luggage with two of my children, but haven't tried it with three. Once they are old enough to do their own luggage, it's back to carry-ons!
  8. I love zoos: I never liked zoos until I had children. I've even gone into a petting area with Joshua--maybe we will even have a pet someday..... then you know I really turned the corner!
  9. Going places without make-up: for those of you who know me that is a completely false statement--I've hardly ever worn makeup! People ask me if I style Emily's hair, or put highlights in her hair--luckily Emily is just a natural beauty because I'm not going to curl her hair or put bows and ribbons in them!

If you have any specialty skills you've gained as a mom, let me know!

Finally, I've reach my goal! What else is there?

Yes, it's true, I am now officially a soccer mom. Harrison and Joshua had their first practice yesterday, and their first game tonight. Harrison didn't end up playing because he had just gotten his shots 1/2 hour before the game. The best part of the game is just watching Joshua--he just barely made the cut off (you had to be four by October 2nd and he turns four on September 29th), so needless to say he is a little clueless. Harrison got to play goalie during practice and he defended his goal very well! I am sure we will be playing soccer alot this fall. They were even playing in the living room when we got home from practice using the Boppy's as goals. So what else is there now that I'm a Soccer Mom? Retirement!
